Power Training

Power training is exercise that focuses on producing force quickly, combining strength and speed. Instead of lifting the heaviest weight slowly, power exercises use moderate loads moved as fast as safely possible, or include explosive movements like jumps, throws, or fast squats. The goal is to improve the ability to generate force rapidly, which is different from simply getting stronger. This kind of training matters because many everyday tasks and quick reactions—catching yourself from a slip, standing up rapidly, climbing stairs—depend on power more than on raw strength. Power training can improve balance, reduce the risk of falls, and boost functional performance, especially in older adults. When done with proper technique and progression, it enhances speed and coordination while supporting independence and quality of life.
